There are many resources to research career fields that you might be interested in.  Several great resources are listed below.  As you look at different careers or job titles, you can find further information on what people in a particular job do on a daily basis, the skills that are needed, the values that are important to that field, and the work environment.

  • InsideJobs: 15,000 video interviews with professionals in many fields are available here for free.  Very helpful to see what people do in their jobs and why they like what they do.
  • CareerOneStop : Explore occupations, learn about industries, clarify skill requirements, take assessments, and more.
  • Military Careers:  There are many ways to make a living in the Military.  Many of these careers provide the training and experience needed for a rewarding second career in the private sector. The Services determine where each individual’s skills are needed most.
  • Occupational Outlook Handbook: OOH is a national source of career information on hundreds of occupations, describing what they do, work environment, how to get into the occupation, pay, and employment projections for the 2010–20 decade.
  • O*NET: O*NET is an on-line database of job titles where you can find descriptions, 10-year estimates of job outlook, and salary ranges by state.
  • Salary Calculator by Industry: The National Association of Colleges and Employers offers the most accurate compensation data available. It is free to students and you can research salaries nationwide in any field.
  • Vault.com: Here you can research career fields and organizations. You can subscribe to this to gain even more information.
  • Vocational Information Center :  Education directory that provides links to online resources for career exploration, technical education, workforce development, technical schools, and related vocational learning resources.
